What is SIBO?
SIBO is short for "Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth." When compared to the colon (large intestine), the small intestine normally has relatively few microbes. However, in the presence of certain conditions or imbalances in the gut, bacterial populations can increase in the small intestine and this causes problems related to gas overproduction, dysfunctional digestion, and impaired absorption. These abnormal conditions in the GI tract lead to the hallmark symptoms of SIBO including:

-
Bloating
-
Pain
-
Diarrhea, constipation, or both
-
Food intolerances
-
GERD
-
Nausea
-
Anxiety and/or depression
-
Brain fog
-
Fatigue
